Law Day 2024

The 2024 Law Day theme, "The Voices of Democracy," focuses on elections. This year, voters are encouraged to participate in the 2024 elections, deepen their understanding of the electoral process, and discuss issues in honest and civil ways. We invite everyone to join us on May 1, 2024, to celebrate Law Day.

In April 2024, the Law Library celebrated National Library Week for the second year in a row. With the solar eclipse on Monday, the library gave away eclipse viewing glasses and celestial-themed treats. For National Library Workers Day, the library showcased its Library Stars and invited the public to help complete a 1000-piece puzzle of the 1895 Courthouse. The library staff also had a free coffee station, swag giveaways, and arts and crafts. Visitors were encouraged to pay the "swag tax" by getting their picture taken at the law library's photo booth.

In April 2023, the Law Library celebrated National Library Week with a variety of activities and giveaways for its patrons. On Monday, patrons were invited to enjoy treats and sweets in the Law Library. On the following day, we celebrated National Library Workers Day, inviting guests to meet our staff and take home some free stickers. Perhaps, the most popular event, staff offered free cups of coffee on Wednesday. On the final two days, staff set up a Selfie Station, provided color-your-own bookmarks, and a scavenger hunt of legal resources.

On October 7, 2022, the Law Library celebrated 77 years of service with the Tarrant County community and its recent renovation. Tarrant County opened its county law library on October 1, 1945. Located in the 1895 Courthouse, the law library served mostly judges and attorneys in its early years, but has expanded to serve the legal needs of the Tarrant County citizenry at large. The Law Library moved to the old Civil Courts building for a few years before returning to the 1895 Courthouse. It was renamed the Dell DeHay Law Library of Tarrant County, in 1979, after its longtime Librarian, Alma Adelphia "Dell" Markward DeHay.
