Free/Low Cost Legal Assistance

 

Legal Aid of Northwest Texas – Free civil legal assistance to low income residents of 114 Texas counties. Eligibility guidelines can be found on Legal Aid of Northwest Texas' website. The Fort Worth office offers clinics on a variety of legal topics including general civil matters, wills, employment matters and bankruptcy. Call 1-800-955-3959 to find out more about Legal Aid, schedule an intake appointment or reserve a spot at an upcoming clinic.

 

Tarrant County Bar Association Lawyer Referral and Information Service  – Call 817-336-4101, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday to schedule a 30-minute consultation with an attorney for a $20 fee.

 

Tarrant County Bar Association LegalLine – Sign-up online for a time slot between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on certain Thursdays each month to have volunteer attorneys answer questions for free over the phone.  A limited number of slots will be available.


Dallas County Bar Association LegalLine – Volunteer attorneys are available on Wednesdays, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Online pre-registration is required and will close each week on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. Volunteer attorneys answer questions for free over the phone. Spanish-speaking attorneys are available.  

 

Tarrant County Domestic Relations Office (DRO) -  The Tarrant County Domestic Relations Office (DRO) consists of Child Support Services, Legal Support Services, Family Court Services, and Community Supervision Unit working together to ensure compliance with applicable State and local laws and associated regulations and directly manages program operations throughout the county. Tarrant County Dispute Resolution Program (DRP) - The Tarrant County Dispute Resolution Program (DRP) provides accessible, high quality dispute resolution services to residents, businesses, organization, and the courts. Their mission is to provide Tarrant County citizens a cost-effective, non-adversarial resolution to litigation or conflict. Call 817-884-2257 for assistance.

 

Texas A&M University School of Law – Law Clinic - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday. Call 817-212-4123 for intake, appointments and referrals. Free legal assistance for low income individuals. Services are performed by law students working under the supervision of attorneys.

 

Legal Helplines for Texans – Call 800-622-2520, Option 3 for free legal advice, self-help publications and referrals for Texans over age 60 or who receive Medicare.

 

Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans, Tarrant County Chapter – Clinic offers free legal advice for U.S. veterans and spouses of deceased veterans on the third Friday of every month, by appointment only. Call 817-546-4460 to make an appointment.

 

SafeHaven of Tarrant County - Offers emergency shelter, legal services, counseling and more to domestic violence victims. Call 877-701-7233 for assistance.


Upsolve - Texas Bankruptcy - Upsolve is a legal aid non-profit organization that provides legal information and free no-asset Chapter 7 bankruptcies for people who have more than $10,000 in debt. Their resources are designed to help pro se litigants who are filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy without an attorney. This website includes exemptions, courts, forms, and more.

Texas Advocacy Project- Texas Advocacy Project’s mission is to empower the public and survivors of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in Texas through free legal services, access to the justice system, and education and prevention.
