Portion of James R. Hawkins' deed for 160 acres in Tarrant County

Summary: Donor's ancestor James Reaves Hawkins (1836-1881) served the Confederacy during the Civil War. He lived in Tarrant County at that time near Village Creek and Caddo Creek in what is now Arlington. It has been passed down through his family that he was captured and held in a prison somewhere and upon his release he walked home from Polk County. J. R. Hawkins enlisted in October 1862 in Dallas and was captured June 28, 1862 at the Second Battle of Donaldsonville in Louisiana. His father Harvey Hawkins was from the Arlington area of Tarrant County and he is buried there at Hawkins Cemetery.
