    Records Information

    Sealing of Records

Sealing of records is not an automatic procedure.  Responsibility for initiating this procedure rests with the individual.  The Texas Family Code, Section 58.003 provides an avenue under certain circumstances for the sealing of a child's juvenile record.  A narrative of this procedure and related guidelines is available.

Due to the complexity of sealing a record, if your child is under the age of 18 and you wish to have your child's records sealed, the Juvenile Court requires that an attorney represent you.  If your child is 18 or older, he/she may file the application to seal files and records.

The application to seal records must be filed with the District Clerk's Office at 2701 Kimbo Road, Fort Worth, TX  76111, 817-838-4645.  Payment of a filing fee is required, and you must obtain a court hearing date.

The application must contain the following:

    1. Your child's full name
    2. Gender
    3. Race or ethnicity
    4. Date of Birth
    5. Driver's license or identification card number
    6. Social Security Number
    7. Offense(s) for which the child was referred to Juvenile Court
    8. Date of offense(s)
    9. Referral number assigned to police report
    10. If a petition was filed against your child in Juvenile Court list the number(s) assigned to each petition

    Checking boxes

The application must be sent by certified mail to all the agencies involved with your case advising them of the court date and time.

At the hearing, an order to seal files and records will need to be presented to the court for approval.  The order must also contain the same information filed in your application, as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety tracking numbers for each offense, (TRN #) if applicable.
