Unidentified Persons

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office (TCME) makes every effort to identify each deceased individual received by the office using a variety of scientific methods and available databases, to provide answers for legal next-of-kin as quickly as possible.  For those decedents who are unable to be identified, TCME utilizes the National Missing and Unidentified Person System (NamUs) database and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database to assist with identification.  While the NCIC database is only accessed by criminal justice agencies, NamUs can be accessed by the public.

The NamUs website generates a unique case number for each decedent and features descriptions of the deceased, including any available photos of the deceased or their personal belongings; demographics (estimated age, population affinity, sex, and stature); scars, marks, tattoos; and personal items found on or near the deceased individual.

Anyone may access the Unidentified Persons Search database on the NamUs site.  There are many search options available.  To geographically narrow the search to the counties serviced by the TCME (Tarrant, Denton, Johnson, and Parker), scroll down to "Circumstances" and "Location Found"; enter "Texas" into the State box and type the name of one of the counties serviced by the TCME into the "County" box.  This will provide you with a complete list of any unidentified cases for the TCME.

For information on possible matches on Unidentified Persons, contact the TCME at 817-920-5700.

For individuals needing to report a missing loved one, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
