Public Health to ground spray for West Nile Virus in unincorporated southeast Tarrant County

Aug. 8, 2020 (Tarrant County, TX) - In response to positive West Nile Virus (WNV) mosquito samples found in southeast Tarrant County, Public Health will do ground spraying in unincorporated portions of the 76140 and 76063 neighborhoods. Weather permitting, spraying will occur between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (August 9 - 11) after all appropriate resident notifications have been completed.

The first WNV human case and death of the 2020 season was reported on July 21.

So far, 2,516 mosquito samples have been tested since West Nile Virus seasonal surveillance began on April 1. A total of 270 samples from the Tarrant County region have tested positive for WNV.

TCPH reminds residents to take measures to safeguard against the West Nile Virus. Residents should dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and whenever possible, dress in long pants and long sleeves during all hours of the day.
