Tarrant County Reentry Initiative Website The Genesis of the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative The Tarrant County Reentry Initiative began November 2005 when the Commissioners Court approved the development of the Tarrant County Reentry Council. After several meetings, the Reentry Council approved its charter and related position paper in July 2006. Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved the Tarrant County Reentry Council position paper as the guiding principles for the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative in November 2006. Upon the recommendation of the Reentry Council, the Commissioners Court approved the creation of a Reentry Coordinator position in the County Administrator's Office. In March 2007, the Tarrant County Reentry Program Coordinator was hired. The guiding principles for the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative have been formalized and approved as a charter document, by the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, (January 2008). The charter document is recognized as the structural and organizational blueprint for the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative. The charter establishes the following Reentry Subcommittees as components of the Reentry Council:
Membership in the Reentry Subcommittees is open to all Tarrant County residents. Currently, membership consists of a wide array of county residents, elected officials, as well as members of agencies and organizations, many of whom actively provide services for the reentry population. The subcommittees are made up of people who have an interest to improve and facilitate the successful reentry and reintegration of formerly incarcerated persons returning to Tarrant County.
