How do I get information to someone in custody?
Inmates cannot receive incoming calls; Emergency calls (serious illness or death) must be directed to the Jail Chaplain for verification and handling. The Office of the Chaplain may be reached at (817) 884-3088.

How do I find out where an impounded vehicle is located?
If impounded by a Tarrant County Sheriff’s Deputy, the Sheriff’s Department contracts with commercial towing service companies for the removal and storage of motor vehicles that are impounded subsequent to an arrest or apprehension made by a Sheriff’s Deputy. To confirm that a particular vehicle has in fact been impounded by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department please call the following phone number: 817-884-1212. If there is a record confirming the subject vehicle has been impounded by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department you will be provided with the name and phone number of the towing company holding the vehicle. You must call the towing company for directions and information regarding any fees and methods of payment.

What do I do when I need an inmate to sign some papers?
You may bring the papers to the Corrections Center Reception Desk. An officer will communicate with the inmate to see if they will sign the papers. If the inmate agrees the papers will be forwarded to the inmate for their signature. You may wait for the papers to be returned to the Reception Desk, or you may come back at a later time or day.

What if the papers that I need signed must be notarized?
You may bring the papers to the Corrections Center Reception Desk. You must bring a Notary Officer with you. An officer will communicate with the inmate to see if they will sign the papers. You and the Notary Officer will be directed to the Attorney’s Booth where the papers can be signed. Be sure the person you bring with you as Notary has proper identification to verify their notary license.

Where do I bring an inmate’s prescription medicines?
Do not bring any medications, prescription or over the counter, to the jail. During the initial intake process all inmates undergo a medical screening. Any medications that an inmate may require will be identified at this time and provided by the Medical Department.

Can an inmate see a doctor while in jail?
Medical and dental services are available to all inmates of the Tarrant County Jail. Inmates will receive medical attention regardless of their ability to pay. The medical services that are available are:
MEDICAL SERVICES

Assessment of new significant illness
Monitoring/supervision of chronic disorders
DENTAL SERVICES
Triage of dental complaints
Trauma and treatment of abscesses
Tooth extractions
VISION SERVICES
Eye examinations are available
Glasses are not provided
MEDICATIONS
The licensed medical staff, per jail physician orders, distributes medication.
Some over the counter medications can be purchased from the commissary.

When can I visit an inmate?
The signing up of visitors shall begin 30 minutes prior to the start of visiting hours. Visitors will not be processed after 8:30 p.m.
Each person will be limited to one visit per day, per inmate. A maximum of two adults will be allowed to visit at any one time. There is no restriction on the number of children, under the age of 16, when accompanied by an adult.
Each inmate may receive a maximum of two (2) visits, not including attorney visits, per day unless approved by the rank of Captain or higher.
Visitors 18 years and older must present proper identification containing their photograph.

How can I leave money for an inmate? All deposits must be made at the Money Room window in the main lobby of the Corrections Center regardless of which jail unit the inmate is housed.
Money may be deposited to an inmates account 22 1/2-hours a day, 7-days a week. The Money Room will be closed for three 30-minute periods every: 6:00am to 6:30am, 2:00pm to 2:30pm, and 10:00pm to 10:30pm.
Deposits shall only be made by Cash (U.S. Currency only, no rolled or loose coins), U.S. Postal Money Orders, Western Union Money Orders or Government checks. U.S. Postal Money Orders, Western Union Money Orders or Government checks or cash will be accepted by mail, although cash sent through the mail is discouraged. U.S. Postal Money Orders, Western Union Money Orders or Government checks must be made payable to the inmate for which the deposit is being made.
No restrictions exist as to who may leave money for deposit into an inmates account, the amount of money that may be deposited by any one donor,.
The inmate’s own money is placed in an account, and a receipt is issued. That money can be used to purchase commissary items at the inmate's permanent jail housing assignment. Unspent money is returned upon release. For more information, read Visitor Information...Top of PageWhat can I send in the mail?Inmates are permitted to send and receive letters. Letters mailed to inmates shall be no larger than 12" by 16".
Inmates may purchase writing supplies (paper, envelopes, pens, and stamps) from inmate commissary.
Writing supplies are furnished to indigent inmates. The only item which may be enclosed with correspondence mailed to an inmate is ten (10) or less unframed photographs no larger than 4" by 6".
Photographs of the self-developing type (Polaroid) from which the hard backing has not been removed are not acceptable.
Any mail that contains contraband (including nude, suggestive or hardback photos) shall be returned in its entirety to the post office.
The jail is responsible only for mail delivered to it by the U.S. Postal Service. The sender must refer all tracer actions on lost mail directly to the post office.

- You must be a resident of Tarrant County.
- You must be in jail on a Tarrant County offense.
- You must not be on parole nor have any previous felony convictions.
- You must be willing to appear in court until the case is completely out of litigation.
- You must provide positive identification.
- First-degree felony charges are excluded.
- A history of bond forfeitures disqualifies a defendant for release through Pretrial.
Top of Page How can I get an inmate's property?Inmate Sentenced To TDCJ / White Warrant Issued
The only inmates authorized to release their property and clothing are those inmates that have been sentenced to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), and are to be released to a TDCJ facility or a facility under contract with TDCJ.
Person Designated By Inmate
Inmates that are transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice shall be allowed to designate an individual to claim their property. The inmate is provided the proper form at the time the actual transfer is being processed. It is the responsibility of the inmate to notify the person they designated to claim their property.
Time Limit To Claim Property
Designated individual shall have thirty days from the date of the inmates transfer to claim the property.
Emergency Approval
When an individual claims that an undue hardship will result if the release of an inmate’s property or clothing is denied that individual shall be directed to Jail Administration. Only a person of the rank of Captain or higher may authorize the release. When Jail Administration is not open, or a Captain or higher is not available, the Booking Watch Commander shall make the decision.

No. While in custody all inmates are required to wear clothing that is provided by the Jail. Certain clothing items may be purchased from the commissary vendor. These items include T-shirts, underwear, socks, and tennis shoes.Top of PageWhat if the inmate needs civilian clothing to appear in court?
In the event an inmate is scheduled for a court appearance that requires wear of street clothes, the inmate will be permitted to use the clothing that they wore when they entered the jail. If these clothes are not appropriate for appearing in court, the court may direct a member of the inmate’s family, or their attorney, to bring one set of clothing to the jail for wear at the court appearance. Following the court appearance this clothing will be returned to the inmate’s personal property bag, or the person who brought it to the jail may pick it up.Top of Page Can an inmate buy food, snacks, or drinks while in jail?
A Commissary is operated by an independent privately owned vendor on contract by the County to offer items for sale to inmates incarcerated in the Tarrant County Jail. The commissary carries a large variety of items in the following categories:
- Food Items
- Coffee, Drinks, etc.
- Legal Items/Stationary
- Hygiene Products
- Health Products
- Various Sundries
The Commissary is prohibited from the sale of any tobacco products; tobacco paraphernalia such as matches, lighter fluid, bottled propane, lighters or items that are capable of causing combustion. Top of Page
