The Sheriff’s Administration unit consists of employees who personally report to Sheriff Waybourn and provide key support for him and the Office as a whole.

 

 

The Detention Bureau is staffed with approximately 1,000 men and women certified as detention officers or peace officers (sheriff's deputies) by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). The Tarrant County Jail has a capacity of approximately 5,000 prisoners and is comprised of five  facilities.

The Detention Bureau offers inmates the opportunities to improve their education while in custody.  All facilities provide a full spectrum of inmate counseling services, medical and psychological services.

 

 

Criminal Investigations Division (CID) processes all cases reported to the Sheriff’s Office.

Criminal Investigations Detectives are divided primarily into two groups: crimes against persons and property crimes. The Office’s Sex Offender Registration and Compliance Officer and the Victim Assistance Coordinator also work under the auspices of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Crimes involving juvenile offenders can fall into any category that adult offenders do, however they are handled in accordance with juvenile guidelines.

 

 

The Patrol Division is the law enforcement arm of the Sheriff’s Office.  Deputies patrol the unincorporated sections of Tarrant County, and two contract cities -- Edgecliff Village and Haslet. Patrol deputies respond to citizens’ calls for assistance, conduct traffic enforcement, investigate traffic accidents and investigate reports of crime or suspected criminal activity in unincorporated Tarrant County.

Many patrol deputies began their career with the Sheriff’s Office as detention officers.

 

 

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Training Academy educates and trains Tarrant County Sheriff’s Deputies, Detention Officers, and other law enforcement officers throughout North Texas.

 

 

Judicial Services is responsible for Court Security in nine County facilites. The Division also operates  the Labor Detail program.

Security in Criminal Courts, Civil Courts, Family Courts, Juvenile Courts, Parole Hearings, and Attorney General Courts is the responsibility of the Judicial Services Division. This task is carried out by assigned Bailiff's. The Texas Government Code allows some elected Judges to hire Bailiffs for their specific court. They wear a similar uniform to the Sheriff's Deputies.

 

 

The Communications and Technology Division consists of five operational units: Records Division, Communications, Property Room, Information Technology, and Accounting.  

 

 

Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County utilizes information from anonymous tipsters to arrest felony offenders. Since its inception in 1982 in Tarrant County, Crime Stoppers has paid more than $3 million in rewards and recovered over $36.5 million in property and narcotics. Additionally, over 14,447 offenders have been arrested, with more than 34,732 cases cleared.
