SER is an acronym for "Service, Employment and Redevelopment" and in Spanish; SER means "to be" and is a national, private, nonprofit organization making a positive impact on families across America. Since its inception in 1964, SER has addressed the needs of economically challenged individuals in education, job skills training, literacy and employment. SER's ultimate goal is to place its program participants into permanent, unsubsidized and productive employment.

SER has responded to the needs of workers and employers through the development of a 21st century workforce to meet the skill needs of American business and industry. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, SER presently oversees a network of 35 community-based organizations in more than 200 cities located in 19 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

SER is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of representatives from the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), American GI Forum, and corporations such as Allstate, Chrysler LLC, Ford, General Motors, IBM, PepsiCo, Procter and Gamble, AT&T, The Home Depot and the SER Network of Partners. SER is committed to a Four Pillar Strategy for new programs and initiatives to carry out its mission:
