In the event of a widespread public health emergency, such as a pandemic outbreak or a biological attack, critical life-saving medication or antidotes will need to be administered to our local citizens.
Tarrant County Public Health has a plan for this. Working with federal and state partners, critical medications can be quickly administered to our local citizens through our Point of Dispensing (POD) Sites.
The Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) is a federal cache of medications and medical equipment that can be quickly deployed during a public health emergency. The SNS cache consists of various antibiotics, other medical supplies and medical equipment for hospitals.
Tarrant County Public Health, along with local cities and municipalities will open multiple POD Sites where citizens can pick up medications to protect against the threat. POD sites will either be walk-thru sites or drive-thru sites. At a walk-thru site, you will park your car, go inside a building and stand in line to get your medication. At a drive-thru site, you will stay in your car and pick up your medication at a station much like a drive-thru lane at your favorite fast food restaurant.
