Mosquito Sample Tests Positive for West Nile Virus in Unincorporated Tarrant County

Ground spraying scheduled for Thursday night

July 1, 2015 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed one West Nile Virus (WNV) positive mosquito sample in unincorporated Tarrant County.

The positive mosquito sample is from Southwest Tarrant County – in the area around Westridge Rd. and Ridge Rd.

Weather permitting, TCPH will begin ground spraying efforts Thursday, July 2, 2015. Ground spraying will start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 5 a.m. the following morning.

In an effort to inform the public, TCPH has issued a notification to neighbors in the area and will continue until the time of spraying.

TCPH has also updated the department’s Stop West Nile Virus webpage.

To date, the department has tested 1,761 mosquito samples at TCPH’s North Texas Regional Laboratory since seasonal surveillance began on April 1. A total of 12 samples have tested positive – Arlington (1), Fort Worth (5), North Richland Hills (1), Richland Hills (1) and Unincorporated Tarrant County (4).

TCPH reminds residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and dress for dusk to dawn.

TCPH has compiled a list of ways You Can Protect Yourself.
