Ground Spraying Scheduled for Monday Night in Unincorporated Tarrant County

July 24, 2015 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) in mosquito samples collected in two areas of unincorporated Tarrant County.

The first sample is from the unincorporated area of Northeast Tarrant County around Corral Drive. The second sample is from the unincorporated area of Northwest Tarrant County around East Court.

Weather permitting, TCPH will begin ground spraying efforts Monday, July 27, 2015. Ground spraying will start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 5 a.m. the following morning.

In an effort to inform the public, TCPH has issued a notification to neighbors in the area and will continue notifications throughout the weekend.

TCPH has also updated the WNV Interactive Map on the department’s Stop West Nile Virus webpage.

To date, the department has tested 2,391 mosquito samples at TCPH’s North Texas Regional Laboratory since seasonal surveillance began on April 1. A total of 63 samples have tested positive – Arlington (10), Crowley (5), Edgecliff Village (1), Euless (1), Fort Worth (19), Grapevine (1), Haltom City (2), Hurst (3), Lake Worth (4), North Richland Hills (2), Pantego (2), Richland Hills (3) and Unincorporated Tarrant County (10).

TCPH would like to remind residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and dress for dusk to dawn.

TCPH has compiled a list of ways You Can Protect Yourself.
