August 1, 2014 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed a West Nile virus (WNV) positive mosquito sample in unincorporated Tarrant County. No human cases have been reported in 2014.

The positive mosquito sample was collected in the area around Ruth’s Ct in Northwest Tarrant County.

Weather permitting; TCPH will begin adulticiding efforts Monday, August 4, 2014. Ground spraying will start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 5 a.m. the following morning.

In an effort to inform the public, TCPH has issued a notification to neighbors in the area and will continue notifications throughout the weekend.

TCPH has also updated the WNV Interactive Map on the department’s Stop West Nile Virus webpage.

To date, 2,298 mosquito samples have been tested at TCPH’s North Texas Regional Laboratory since seasonal surveillance began on April 1. A total of 20 samples have tested positive - Bedford (8), Colleyville (5), Euless (4), North Richland Hills (1), Benbrook (1) and Unincorporated Tarrant County (1).

TCPH would like to remind residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and dress for dusk to dawn.
