Mark your calendar to attend this free presentation at which Dr. John McKnight, author and professor emeritus of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University, will speak to residents and members of the Tarrant County Community Voices in Partnership for Health about his unique perspectives on social services delivery systems, health policy, community organizations and neighborhood policy.
McKnight is the Co-director of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute in Illinois. He currently directs research projects focused on asset-based neighborhood development and methods of community building. His most recent work is captured in his co-authored book, The Abundant Community: Awakening the Power of Families and Communities, 2010.
Many of his theories on the development potential of local assets such as schools, churches and parks are based on nationwide data gathered from more than 100 neighborhoods in 20 cities. Other publications by McKnight include Building Communities from the Inside Out: A Path Toward Finding and Mobilizing a Community’s Assets, 1993.
