Secretaries for the Medical Examiner’s Office provide a diverse complement of administrative support services for the daily operation of the office. In addition to performing typical secretarial tasks, each medical secretary assists in the management of records, complex transcription services and interaction with bereaved families, law enforcement agencies, hospitals and funeral homes. Included in their responsibilities is the issuance of death certificates, amendments and cremation authorization certificates as well as scheduling pathologists for court appearances.
Accepting employment with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's
Office in 2005, Ms. Lawson serves currently as the Executive Assistant
to the Chief Medical Examiner. In this role, she schedules
pathologists for morgue duty, arranges court appearances and
professional engagements for the Chief Medical Examiner and his staff,
supervises the Secretarial Services section, and assists families, law
enforcement agents, and attorneys with their concerns and inquiries.
Additionally, she serves as the Public Information Officer for the
Tarrant County Medical Examiner's District, fielding questions from
the media and releasing information to the public as necessary. Ms.
Lawson has reaffirmed her dedication through continued professional
development in Public Information Officer awareness, leadership, and
influence, as well as training with the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive
Leadership Association (FBI-LEEDA).
