Search Engines

The following search engines are good places to start your legal research:

  • All Law - A subject directory that includes a variety of topics of interest to lawyers.  The search engine focuses on legal resources and has a legal glossary.
  • Altavista - Another excellent search engine. 
  • Dogpile - A meta-search engine.  Dogpile searches 25 search engines, 3 at a time.  You can continue your search into the next 3 search engines by clicking on the button at the end of each results list.  Dogpile does not search Google, Fast, or Ask Jeeves.
  • Google - The library's favorite search engine.
  • Excite - Provides both a web directory and web search engine organized by category.
  • Findlaw - Searchable links to Federal, State, and foreign-related sites. 
  • Inference Find - Multi-search engine.  Merges the results and removes the redundancies.
  • Lawcrawler - Retrieves information geared towards the legal profession.
  • Webcrawler - Offers quick searching when looking for mainstream information.  Not recommended for complex searches.
  • Yahoo - A simple to use hierarchically-arranged subject index.
