Family Support Program

The Family Support Program (FSP) was created to support the progress of youth placed in residential treatment by providing concurrent treatment to their families during the youth’s placement and through supervision and support following discharge of the youth. FSP provides in-home support to families, to assist in gaining skills, knowledge and insight to better understand family dynamics and the child’s needs. The goal of the program is reunification of the family, a smooth transition following placement home, and healthier relationships among family members. The services provided vary according to the needs of the family. Services include: family assessment, in-home counseling, parenting skills training, referral and linkages to community resources, and liaison to the school and child’s counselor.

In 2002, 64 families were involved in the FSP program. There were 26 cases which were closed during 2002. Of these closed cases 19 were successful.

Success depends on the family's participation with the in-home interventions developed to assist the family in building on their family strengths and issues of concern in order for the family to reunify upon discharge from placement.
