Sex Offending Caseload

The Sex Offending Caseload provides specialized probation supervision and oversight of court-ordered treatment for juveniles adjudicated for sex offenses. This includes juveniles who are adjudicated for participation in: aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, indecency with a child, criminal attempt sexual assault, public lewdness, indecent exposure and other misdemeanor sexual offenses. As a requirement of successful completion of probation, clients on this caseload undergo an offense-specific psychological assessment that is used to identify treatment issues as well as to determine whether the juvenile should be allowed to return home during treatment or whether to enter residential treatment out of the home for a period of time. Clients are also expected to participate in a 9-12 month program of mandatory treatment that includes individual, family and group therapy. Attendance at treatment sessions is closely monitored by specialized probation officers and by a registered sex offender treatment provider. Family members are also required to attend specific family treatment sessions to assist their juvenile in working on issues to avoid re-offending. Supervision of the case may last up to two years and requires adherence to a specific set of conditions for supervision. Through this individualized combination of treatment, supervision, and support, youth are assisted in gaining control over sexually abusive behavior and developing pro-social behaviors.

During 2002, 193 juveniles were served in the program. Of those completing the program, 78% did so successfully.

Once the client has completed:

  1. All of the written and oral assignments
  2. Has successfully mastered all modules for outpatient treatment
  3. Has completed all required clinical examinations.

The client is then discharged from the program successfully.
