About the Tarrant County Historical Commission The Tarrant County Historical Commission was created by the Legislature of the State of Texas and is governed by the Local Government Code, Chapter 318. All Commission members are volunteers appointed by the Commissioners’ Court of Tarrant County. The goal of the Tarrant County Historical Commission is to protect and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Tarrant County for the use, education, enjoyment and benefit of current and future generations. The Commission is currently composed of twenty-nine members from across Tarrant County. Commission members are appointed by the Commissioner’s Court in odd-numbered years. The work and projects of the Commission are managed by Committees. The Tarrant County Historical Commission meets bi-monthly beginning in January of each year. All meetings are open to the public.
