Tarrant County Public Health offering seasonal flu shots

(Tarrant County, Texas) … Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) begins offering flu shots through its public health centers, Monday, Sept. 27. This year, everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu shot. In some instances, children between 6 months to 8 years require two doses of the vaccine for adequate protection. Flu shots are $20 per person and must be paid in cash. Medicare Part B and Medicaid will also be accepted. The vaccine for children under three is not yet available.

“Everyone should take advantage of the many places that offer the flu shot, not just our public health centers but also in the pharmacies and private care clinics throughout Tarrant County, said Lou Brewer, Tarrant County Public Health Director. “It does not matter where you get your flu vaccine as long as you get the shot.”

“This year’s seasonal vaccine provides protection against last year’s H1N1 virus as well as other flu strains,” said Dr. Sandra Parker, TCPH’s medical director and health authority. “It is important to understand that there are respiratory viruses in circulation year-round that may mimic the flu, but the only protection against the seasonal flu is to get vaccinated. Everyone needs a flu shot, every year.”
