About the Fire Marshal

Responsibilities of the Tarrant County Fire Marshal’s Office

  • Fire/Explosive Investigations
Our office conducts fire/explosive investigations in the unincorporated areas of Tarrant County.  We have three investigators that are certified in fire/arson and explosive post blast investigations.  We also have an explosives detections canine.  In the case of a large scene investigation we have the capability of calling the ATF Task Force to assist and also the Tarrant County Arson Task Force.  Both groups can provide us with the needed tools, manpower and assistance to our scene investigations.
  • Fire Safety Inspections.
We have three certified Fire Inspectors in our office that conduct several different types of fire safety inspections in the unincorporated areas of Tarrant County.  We conduct inspections of commercial businesses, public buildings, and residential dwellings (upon request).  We also conduct inspections of daycares, foster and group homes.
  • Retail Fireworks Stand Inspections and Fireworks Violations.
Each year during the fireworks season our office conducts fire inspections of all the retail fireworks stands in the unincorporated areas of Tarrant County to ensure that they meet the State Fireworks Code and Standards.  We also handle fireworks complaints and violations during this season.
  • Outdoor Burning.
Our office handles calls and complaints on out door burning.  At times we respond to sites for inspection before the outdoor burning is conducted and we also respond to complaints of improper outdoor burning.  We work with the TECQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) concerning outdoor burning violations and complaints in the unincorporated areas of Tarrant County.
  • Coordination of Fire/EMS responses.
Our office is the liaison between the Tarrant County Emergency Services District #1 and the Fire Departments that contract for fire and EMS coverage in the unincorporated areas of Tarrant County.  We also work with the Tarrant County 911 District making sure the 911 system has the proper information to notify the fire and EMS responders in these areas.
