The Genesis of the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative

The Tarrant County Reentry Initiative (TCRI) began November 2005 when the Commissioners Court approved the development of the Tarrant County Reentry Council. After initial meetings, the Reentry Council approved its founding charter and related position paper in July 2006. Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved the Tarrant County Reentry Council position paper as the initial guiding principles for the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative in November 2006.

Upon the recommendation of the Reentry Council, the Commissioners Court approved the creation of a Reentry Coordinator position in the County Administrator's Office. In March 2007, the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative Coordinator was hired.  Under the direction of the Reentry Coordinator, a priority for the initiative was set to better understand the nature and extent of ex-offender reentry to Tarrant County. That effort has yielded the following research reports:

The guiding principles for the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative have been updated, formalized and approved as a charter document , by the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, (January 2008). The charter document is recognized as the structural and organizational blueprint for the Tarrant County Reentry Initiative. The charter establishes ten Reentry Subcommittees as components of the Reentry Council.

The Commissioners Court's continues its support of the TCRI as evidenced in by their unanimous approvals of Legislative Policy Statement: 2007 and, Legislative Policy Statement: 2008.
