District Clerk

{Thomas A. Wilder}

Thomas A. Wilder, District Clerk

The District Clerk is elected for a four year term and manages most of the business operations for the 26 District Courts in Tarrant County that hear Civil, Family and Felony Criminal cases. The office functions with 135 employees who maintain and manage the records and money for court fees and fines collected, over 20 million dollars in approximately two thousand custodial accounts which are invested for the benefit of many minor children on orders from the courts, bail bond forfeitures and all tax lawsuits.  The office also produces a substantial number of court documents including civil citations, criminal warrants, criminal judgments and sentences, and performs other ministerial duties.  Currently, the office receives approximately 60,000 new case files every year.

The District Clerk's Office implemented fax filing for lawsuits in 1995 with the approval of the Texas Supreme Court and Board of District Judges. In 2004 the office began offering Web Based Access to images of court case documents, many of the courts' computerized records, and other information of use to employers, attorneys, and the general public. A subscriber agreement, along with appropriate fees is required for both the fax filing and Web Access service.

The Dial-In service which began in 1996, was discontinued on January 1, 2006.  This service was replaced by our Web Access service starting in 2004.  A major upgrade to Web Access is underway and will be implemented in 2008.

Hours of operation for all offices listed below are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except when otherwise indicated next to the office location and for scheduled County Holidays.
