Community Development and Housing Division

The Community Development Division of the County Administrator's office, administers several development and housing programs, including those funded under the following federal grants: Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnership, Emergency Shelter and Supportive Housing grants. Offered great latitude by federal funding agencies, the Division has devised several innovative and comprehensive programs to meet the County's housing and community development needs. On behalf of  local cities, the Division operates far-reaching public works programs which has had a significant impact on the infrastructure of the County's poorer neighborhoods for over twenty years. In addition, parks, senior centers and handicapped facilities have been substantially improved across the area. The cities of Tarrant County cooperate through the Mayors' Council of which the Community Development Division acts as the administrative arm.

Housing programs include home rehabilitation, first-time home buyer assistance and the acquisition and rehabilitation of low-income housing. To these ends, the Division collaborates with a number of local non-profit and community organizations to ensure that local residents play a role in these important issues. The Division also works closely with the Tarrant County Housing Department in planning and monitoring Section 8 rental assistance programs.

As part of its efforts to combat homelessness, the Division supports several local emergency shelters and administers a sophisticated transitional housing program through local providers. These programs are designed to provide clean, safe and livable housing, with supportive services, to give homeless individuals and families every opportunity to break out of the cycle of homelessness.

Each year, the Division publishes a Consolidated Plan which includes demographic and community-wide data, as well as descriptions of the County's housing and community development efforts.
