Free Rides on Election Day

Tarrant County partners with Trinity Metro, Arlington and Northeast Tarrant transit services to provide free transportation to voters on Election Day

(FORT WORTH, TX – Oct. 30, 2019) – On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Tarrant County voters will be able to catch free rides to the polls on seven transit services.

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved a partnership with several transportation services in Tarrant County to pay for customer trips to voting locations on Election Day.

On Nov. 5, riders can show their voter registration card or current Texas ID and ride for free to vote.

The Commissioners Court approved the plan, which is not to exceed $20,000, on Oct. 15. 

“It is important that every eligible voter in Tarrant County has the opportunity to vote,” said Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley. “We have included as many public transit providers as possible within Tarrant County, from accessible services for the elderly and mobility-impaired, to on-demand service in Arlington.”

Wayne Gensler, vice president and chief operating officer for bus and paratransit at Trinity Metro, said he is pleased for the opportunity this partnership provides.

“Election Day is an essential time for everyone’s voice to be heard,” Gensler said. “We appreciate the Tarrant County Commissioners funding this initiative to encourage voter participation.”

The seven transit services included in the program are Trinity Metro’s fixed-route bus, TEXRail, ACCESS paratransit, Tarrant County Transportation Services (TCTS), and Northeast Transportation Services (NETS), and Arlington’s Via and Handitran.

Those who qualify and want to ride to vote on ACCESS, TCTS, NETS or Handitran should call the provider at least 48 hours ahead of the trip to schedule their free ride to any of the Tarrant County Vote Centers.

To use Via’s on-demand service in Arlington to vote on Election Day, riders simply download Via’s app and enter the address of a Vote Center within Via’s service area or call 817-794-7382 to hail a ride by phone. The rider will not be charged for trips scheduled to or from a Vote Center location.

La Corte de Comisionados del Condado de Tarrant aprobó una asociación con varios servicios de transporte en el condado para pagar los viajes de clientes a los centros de votación el día de las elecciones.

El 5 de noviembre, los pasajeros podrán mostrar su certificado de registro de votación o su Identificación de Texas y viajar gratis para votar.

El viajero no recibirá cargos por viajes desde o hacia centros de votación.

Los votantes también tienen la opción de votar en su precinto local sin necesidad de desplazarse a una localidad diferente.

Vào ngày 5 tháng 11, cử tri có thể trình thẻ đăng ký cử tri hoặc thẻ căn cước cá nhân của bang Texas để đi xe miễn phí để bỏ phiếu.

Vào ngày 15 tháng 10, Tòa Án Ủy Viên đã phê duyệt kế hoạch này, với chi phí không vượt quá $20.000.

Thẩm Phán Quận Tarrant Glen Whitley nói "Điều quan trọng là mỗi cử tri trong Quận Tarrant đều có cơ hội để bỏ phiếu". Cử tri trong vùng Arlington để sử dụng dịch vụ Via’s để đi bỏ phiếu vào ngày Bầu Cử, cử tri chỉ cần tải ứng dụng Via và nhập địa chỉ nơi Bỏ Phiếu trong vùng hoặc gọi số 817-794-7382 để đón xe qua điện thoại. Cử tri sẽ không bị tính lệ phí cho các chuyến đi và về theo hẹn.

Cử tri cũng có lựa chọn để bỏ phiếu tại địa phương của họ và không bắt buộc phải đi đến một nơi bỏ phiếu khác.
